How to use the output

The number that matters when comparing operators is the all in total, not the hourly rate. Ask each company for the figure that will appear at the bottom of the invoice, including gratuity, administrative or fuel surcharge, tolls, and parking, and compare those.

Two things frequently have room in them: the administrative fee, which is often waivable on larger bookings, and the minimum, which is negotiable off peak and effectively fixed on a peak Saturday. More on where the flexibility is in our pricing guide.

What this does not include

• Extra stops beyond the itinerary, typically $15 to $40 each.
• Overtime if the night runs long. Ask whether it is prorated or rounded up.
• Child seats, decorations, or special requests.
• Airport access fees on transfer work, typically $3 to $10.
• Damage deposits, commonly a $200 to $500 card hold on party buses and stretch vehicles.
